Vending with the Coronavirus Scare

You'd have to be living under a rock to not have heard about the Coronavirus. It's actually called COVID-19, and there are many different kinds of Coronaviruses. Social Media and various News Outlets have been calling this particular one simply The Coronavirus, so that's how I'll refer to it here.

Coronaviruses are named for the crown-like spikes on the surface of the virus. Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV).

Sadly, this virus has taken lives around the world. As a consequence people in The United States have decided to stay indoors, and to avoid crowds. Which means that currently craft shows, comicons, festivals, and events are seeing a drastic dip in attendance. These are the events and shows I normally Vend and Showcase my Chainmaille Jewelry, Accessories, and Art at.

Unfortunately, I am already getting emails from Event Coordinators and Staff telling me that their Events, Markets, Comicons has been cancelled or postponed until further notice.

I'm not going to lie, this is a big blow to me. I handcraft and sell my Chainmail Jewelry and Accessories to make my living. It is my sole source of income, and I'm very proud of the small business I've built over the last 7 years. I'm not sure what I'll do if a majority of the events I'm scheduled to vend at decide to cancel their shows. I'm trying to stay positive. I'm hoping for the World, and not just for myself and for my loved ones, that this virus will run it's course soon. That things will stabalize and people will have breathing room to heal and grieve. I'm hoping I'll still be able to travel and see some of you while Vending at Markets and Shows. I really do love seeing the look of elation in someone's eyes when they spot the perfect piece that just screams their name.

I'll try to keep everyone updated on my Event and Show schedule as soon as I can confirm dates and locations. I'll share updates here on my Upcoming Events Page when I get the needed information. Just maybe this vending year can be salvaged yet, and things will work out in the end. I'm forever the optimist, and I don't see that changing any time soon. Having great customers and followers like y'all makes it easy for me to keep my head up! So thank you.

Yours Truly,

Rayven's Chainmaille

I now offer Gift Cards to help offset the burden from the loss of Event Season

Note on the image I used for my Blog Post: It was download and used with permission.

This illustration, created at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reveals ultrastructural morphology exhibited by coronaviruses. Note the spikes that adorn the outer surface of the virus, which impart the look of a corona surrounding the virion, when viewed electron microscopically. A novel coronavirus, named Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), was identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China in 2019. The illness caused by this virus has been named coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

  • I can only hope that COVID-19 burns itself out quickly. In the meantime, I hope that you can continue your business without too many more issues.
